Make Shop & Studio

by Liz Curry

Journey back to a simpler time of hand stitched garments and personalized attire. Stepping into this boutique takes you to a point of existence which provided wonderful materials blended with charm and individuality. Make Shop & Studio has made this old-world idea a reality and has fused it with our eco-friendly culture.

Talented local designer and boutique owner Julie McCullough Kim believes in artistic originality and expresses her love for fashion through her hand-crafted line 2Enju and her innovative retail space/open house workshop. Behind the glass paned door of Make Shop is an adventure waiting to be explored in our very own Bishop Arts District.

Make Shop provides a fantastic opportunity to escape the ever-so-busy working world and find sanctity in creating and exploring new depths. In fact, you can break away from the harsh work day to sign up for beginners sewing or hand embroidery with Julie and experience the joys of a good ole fashion hobby. She offers a variety of creative outlets for the urban Dallasite including screen printing, floral design, jewelry design and much more. Julie reminds us that “life comes first, and business comes second,” and that Make Shop is a place where “you can have a good time and be perfect later.”

Not only do you have the opportunity to create a fabulous handbag but “you will leave with a sense of accomplishment” Julie explains. She illustrates her enthusiasm by stating, “I love to see the excitement, it’s almost juvenile, and I think it is so cool to see their faces.”

While finding your creative side you can also be inspired and purchase goods from local designers who follow in Julie’s lead towards quality, hand crafted merchandise. The product assortment at Make Shop is broad ranging from jewelry to candles to garments made from natural threads. Julie’s featured line 2Enju is eco-fabulous because it is made of organic fabrics that are hand-dyed and poised to perfection. Her seasonless designs can be worn bare or layered and provide an extremely forgiving silhouette which is great for belting. She eloquently describes 2Enju as having “modern prints and timeless shapes.”

2Enju also features headwear, vintage charms refurbished into modern jewelry, and quality handbags made from vegan suede and vegan leather handles. Her handbags are unique and multi-functional with the triple-handle option turning it from a hobo to a shoulder purse to a messenger bag.

The unique concept at Make Shop is heart warming and represents all that is personable and true. What could be mistaken for a simple boutique is in fact a refuge for finding yourself and embracing your hidden talent.
