From Head
Traditionally, tinsel is not thought of as something for your hair. But stylist Marissa Belz at Solstice Salon offers a new spin on this season’s hottest hair garnish. Hair Candy is subtle, but makes that sparkly statement – perfect for the holidays and beyond. With the average Hair Candy lasting 4-6 weeks, this will take you well into 2010. Belz offers a wide selection of silk strands in sparkling colors that are safe to blow dry or flat iron.
The season’s hottest eyewear is available at Fashion Optical. Morgan Metcalf can guide you through his store to the perfect frame for your face. My personal favorite for this time of year is the new frame by Cazal. These sunglasses are handmade in Berlin, complete with handset Austrian crystals.
Super high shine lips are in! Vivid, electrifying colors with a high-gloss finish will be hard to resist under the mistletoe. Theresa at the Stanley Korshak makeup counter can guide you to the perfect kissable shade.
Moving Down
With statement accessories being all the rage, treat yourself to a fabulous cocktail ring. My current faves are Michelle Lenae (Kelly….there should be an apostrophe over first e in Lenae) and Alexis Bittar. Bittar rings have an interesting architectural element to them, using mixed gems with lucite, Swarovski crystals, brass and chain – all used in unexpected ways. Don’t let Santa Baby off the hook though; make sure you’ve slipped him your wish list from Carter Malouf’s lavish jewelry collection. Carter is available in his private Highland Park studio by appointment only at (214) 750-5395.
Gift yourself something that gives back. The Freedom Project, an initiative to employ women rescued out of oppressive environments, continues to expand with my new holiday and spring line of clutches and small purses. These will also make unique gifts and are available at Rich Hippie. If you're focused on finding a clutch with a bit more bling, check out the latest from Ted Rossi. These unique pieces are adorned with large, tastefully-placed Swarovski crystals available in an array of options including patents, velvets and pewter treated fabrications.
To Toe
Some of my favorite things about this time of year are tights, leggings and boots. This year, fancy and fun tights are in, and lace layering pieces are all the rage. Two suggested brands for tights and leggings are Hue and Wolford. But don’t miss my take this year, as my ruched legging is now offered with an industrial zipper option. I am also offering an Italian lace legging and layering top available at Stanley Korshak.
When mixing statement shoes and tights, decide which of the two you want to emphasize and down-play the other. Ankle boots continue to be hot-as-ever with endless variations available with chains, studs, and bedazzled accents. Por la Victorie is my latest favorite, offering a perfect blend of comfort and style.
You’re finally accessorized head to toe! For your Holiday dresses, go simple and sleek, showing off your best assets and new accessories. May I suggest my original 5-way Nikki dress which can be repurposed with the right accessories several times in one season without anyone knowing?
Happy Holidays! Now go deck those halls.
